Pros and cons of Kyoto Map & Walks (F) app for iPhone and iPad

Kyoto Map & Walks (F) app good for

This thing is really saving my trip to Kyoto. It works great offline, so I dont have to run up huge data bills. I came to Kyoto a bit last minute and right after another trip to see family, so I was ill-prepared for this one, I knew there were temples here and it was going to be interesting, but nothing more. I started out this morning just willing to give this thing a shot, and had a great day doing most of the first City Orientation tour. Awesome. There are some issues. The biggest is that on the map the icons at the top (to show subway, bus, food, etc.) are not working properly, so that they dont scroll properly, making them very hard to use.
The list of items included is robust, and the descriptions, while fairly short, are very useful. Great not just for walking around, but also for planning what you want to see during whatever length of stay you have (you can assemble your own walks). Includes several places you wouldnt find in ordinary tourist guides.

Some bad moments

Very limited as you dont have an easy on line map. When you try to find yourself the app has a bug which keeps referring you to a dead end in settings. A cheap although wasteful money. In general looks a good idea but seems to lack of testing on the run.
The offline map is ok. Its good to see the route you have to go in the map. But I miss more pictures and much more background information.
For the price I paid I was not satisfied. All the information about Kyoto is available online. So one who purchases this app expects to have good amount of information available off-line. This is not the case. PoI information is very limited. You have certain # of attempts to create your own route (why limit?). I think there is an issue with gps sync it takes quite a while to locate where you are and often not accurate. No map orientation makes it difficult to track the map. I am dissatisfied. When in Japan rent an iPhone and use online search and google maps - much better value.
This app us totally useless! It does nothing as promised. It only gives stock photos if the sites and a city map (two things you can get must places for free). There is no turn by turn navigation as a gps system should do. There us no interactive features at all. When I arrived in Kyoto I could not bookmark my starting point so I could get back to where I started. The direction list made no attempt to translate the kanji. Its supposed to be a guide for foreigners - why give directions and list in kanji? I am literally stuck in Kyoto now with no way of getting around. Waste if time and money!! If I could, I would give negative star for this. They are just lying stealing peoples.
Many locations are given on the map in kanji and in what appear to be romaji transliterations of Chinese but not in English - for example, Kyoto is listed as Jing Dou Shi. Im not sure if this would be useful to a Chinese speaking user but it certainly isnt to an English or Japanese speaking user. Places of interest to tourists such as Teramachi south of Oike dont even appear on the map.
